Retroactive Hash Backfill

Compute SHA-256 hashes for all existing photos that don't have one yet. Safe to run repeatedly — already-hashed photos are skipped.

How upload security works

Client-side: Magic bytes are read from the first 16 bytes of every file before upload. Videos, PDFs, and disguised files are rejected instantly.
SHA-256 fingerprint: A hash is computed before upload. If the same photo already exists in the user's library, it's skipped — saving storage.
Server-side re-check: After upload, validateUpload is called to re-verify the hosted file's magic bytes. If the file doesn't pass, the Photo record is deleted.
Backfill: This tool retroactively assigns hashes to photos uploaded before this security system was added.
